VM3D
Command line: VM3D
Description:
visualize 3D model, 3D entities or 3ds files (real
time rendering)
TopoLT toolbar: ![]()
Menu: TopoLT » 3D Model » View 3D Model
This command allows you to visualize
newly created 3D models, volumes resulting from calculations, 3D entities
selected from the CAD program, and files containing 3D models or point clouds.
For files, you can simply drag and drop the selected file(s) onto the drawing
area to visualize them.
When calling this command from the
CAD program, if an image attached to the 3D model is selected, this image will
be placed over the 3D model or the point cloud as a texture positioned in
coordinates.
Description
of view options:
To view you can choose the
projection method respectively the perspective or orthographic one.
Viewing distance is the distance
from camera (point from which you look) to working area. This distance can be
used in case of high objects or objects situated far on high from working area.
All 3D objects can be scaled on
height, realizing a deformation of them on Z direction.
Fast changing of values for viewing
distance and scale factor on Z can be made with mouse wheel.
Working area or axes can be drawn or
not in viewport.
Dimension or background color for
viewport can be changed. There are standard dimensions from which you can
choose. When you choose dimension you can force window to be made from blocks
of 2x2, 4x4 or 8x8 pixels. Using pixels dimension that divide with 2, 4 or 8
must be made in concordance with AVI compressor chosen when you record movies.
Some AVI compressors support only pixels dimension that divide with 2, 4 or 8.
Description
rendering options:
You can choose light intensity,
texture quality and if 3D objects are smooth or not.
Point
appearance description:
You can choose the point size (in
pixels) and the edge intensity used to highlight the points.
Description
objects options:
If in objects list, first line, with
“All objects”, is selected then
options about rendering, texture, etc. are applied for all objects. In case
there is a selection group “Selected
objects”, options are applied only for selection group. The same in case
there is only one selected object.
From list with rendering mode you
can choose drawing mode for object or objects that were selected. So, objects
can be drawn with 3D faces, with 3D faces and lines, with lines or with points.
Rendering side is the filling side
or 3D faces. Objects can be rendered on front face, back face or on both of
them (filling on both faces).
The point rendering mode can be
chosen based on point attributes such as: color, normals,
intensity, elevation, curvature, confidence, classification, near-infrared
(NIR), surface solidity, or scan sequence. Rendering modes are inactive for
points lacking the corresponding information.
Texture files that can be applied to
3D objects are loaded only from “C:\Program
Files\TopoLT\Textures\” (path is available if program was loaded on path “C:\Program Files\TopoLT\”). You can
copy textures you desire in this folder. There are accepted only bmp, jpg or tga files.
In case of 3ds files that call
textures which are not in texture folder of TopoLT, you will be asked to
introduce the files. Calling path is saved so that, on the next calls, a new
introducing will not be necessary. There are saved maximum 10 folders in which
you can look for textures from 3ds files.
Loaded texture can be applied to 3D
object in the following ways: with spherical reflection, pieces joined like
tile, stretched to object, centered on object without deforming image or put in
coordinates. When the way with pieces joined like tile is selected, you can
increase or decrease texture. The way with putting in coordinates is used only
when this command is given from CAD and an image attached to 3D model was
selected.
Object’s color can be texture’s
color, as if white color would combine with texture’s colors, or can be 3D
faces color combined with texture’s color.
When there are one or more selected
objects, from pop-up menu you can choose a specific color or a diffuse,
ambient, specular or emission color for selected
object (objects).
Working
mode:
In order to view you can rotate in
real time, zoom or pan model and select one or several objects. To zoom use mouse wheel. To select several objects press
Shift.
To fast access specific settings or
to give specific commands there are two pop-up menus. One menu is for case when
objects are selected and the other one is for case when objects are not
selected.
In the first case (selected
objects), using pop-up menu, you can change rendering mode, you can choose the
way to use mouse (rotation, zoom, pan or selection), you can choose colors for
selected objects or returning them to initial color, you can hide selected
objects or you can abandon selection. You can abandon selection fast pressing
Esc.
In the second case (unselected
objects) you can give commands to record a movie, to save a image (Ctrl+S), to insert a 3ds file (Ctrl+O),
you can choose the way to use mouse (rotation, zoom, pan or selection), you can
select all objects (Ctrl+A), you can show all hidden
objects, you can delete all objects (Delete), you can make settings for view,
you can view image on full screen and you can view properties of existing model
and details about OpenGL available on your computer.
When you record movies you can
choose AVI compressor from compressors list installed in Windows. Some
compressors do not work properly or images quality can be low. Choose by tests,
which compressor satisfies you considering image quality and dimension of saved
avi file.
Before starting record, program
tests the number of frame per second FPS with which movie can be recorded.
Number of FPS is important because the higher it is, the better record quality
is. From 22 FPS up, human eye does not see frames that are unwinded
when movie plays. Number of FPS obtained from test depends on:
- dimension
of viewport;
- AVI
compressor;
- characteristics of video
card, processor and harddisk.
- number of points, number of 3D
visualized faces and, used textures.
In order not to create large files,
number of FPS is limited at maximum 30.
While recording, when menus or
commands in which dialog windows appear are used, recording is stopped (pause)
until command is finished.
It is recommended to use "Windows Media Player" for
watching movies. It is possible to appear lines that damage image if you use
other players. If these damages appear, you can escape of them only restarting
Windows.
View panel can be saved as bmp or
jpg image. Bmp format can be converted in any format you desire using Windows.
You can insert one or several files
once using insert button or command from pop-up menu. Objects from these files
are inserted in coordinates. It is possible the new inserted objects not to be
visible if they are at a big distance from the working area, working area that
was established when you inserted the first file.
By example, to insert a number of
trees saved as 3ds files in a 3d model you must save these trees at the
corresponding position in coordinates.
To view on full screen press button
for "Full screen” or double click in view panel or from pop-up menu. You
can escape pressing button Esc.
When calculated volumes are viewed
it is also shown a report about volumes calculation.
